Nevada Department of Transportation

In early 2018, the Nevada DOT decided to replace three of its existing legacy systems—the Project Scheduling and Management System (PSAMS), Bid Estimate System (iPD), and Financial Management System (FinMan)—with a single integrated modern cloud solution. The Nevada DOT also wanted to select a system that was easy to integrate with other state and federal systems.

Challenge

The goal was to drive greater efficiency and collaboration throughout the Department by automating workflows and storing electronic documentation in a single location for various transportation projects. The solution needed to reduce the time it took to get a project released and awarded in addition to improving the ability to secure more federal funds.

Solution

Nevada DOT will have about 700 internal users and approximately 100 external users, leveraging Masterworks to run 100 construction projects a year, with 35–45% of them focusing on the maintenance of existing roads and bridges.

Soon after implementation, the investment in Masterworks doubled, expanding the scope to deliver a single-source solution in a cross-functional organization. This investment allowed Nevada’s DOT departments to collaborate even more closely, share key data, and provide robust and in-depth business intelligence to further track their capital program from the planning stage, through design and construction, to operations and maintenance.

Impact

Masterworks’ Impact on Nevada DOT, across six departments include:

  • Secure and track federal funding
  • Collaboration between six disparate departments
  • Standardized documentation process
  • Transparency and accountability across departments
  • Automated workflows and electronic approval processes
  • Time-to-deliver key transportation programs
  • Business Intelligence reports delivering actionable data and the ability to identify risk
  • Integration with third party systems via open API

During the Masterworks implementation, it became apparent that other groups within our organization would benefit from the power and scale it offered. By being able to leverage the full range of capabilities offered by the Masterworks suite, communication and teamwork across the DOT will accelerate, improving our ability to meet the infrastructure needs of Nevada residents, on time and on budget.
